Know Your Collector

KYC usually asks you to prove who you are to an institution.
This reverses the direction.
The collector does not hand over a face. They make one.
Google's GNM head model generates, lights, and turns a face. The rendered mesh is reduced to horizontal bands of ink.
What survives is enough for the eye to build a person.
No selfie enters the system. The face belongs to no collector until a collector chooses it, changes its pose and treatment, and saves the result.
A portrait by association, not resemblance.
The identity seed controls the head. Pose, expression, light, and ink are settings.
Change the settings and the same synthetic person stays recognizable.
Anyone can reproduce the image. The seed and full configuration ship with every saved work.
The collector's decision to stop on that image and claim it happens once.
How it worked
Patron. Hold the edition that opens the system.
Generate. Move through identities, poses, light, and ink.
Select. Save one configuration.
Verify. Post a unique code from an established X account.
The post ties one public person to one chosen image. It verifies the choice, not the face.
No supply was announced in advance. Each collector who finished before the deadline added one work.

Each pack was generated, then measured. A machine ranked all eighty by how much light passes through the tear, and the ranking sorts the collection into the six stages of a market coming apart: one Euphoria, four Complacency, five Anxiety, ten Denial, twenty Panic, forty Capitulation. The least damaged pack in the set is the single Euphoria.
Distribution as medium. The full edition was minted in a single transaction and released through Fake World Assets, an onchain gacha machine where strangers pay a fixed amount to pull blind from a pooled vault. The venue reenacts the subject: pay, pull, receive a torn pack, and land somewhere between Euphoria and Capitulation. A torn wrapper with no contents is the definitional fake world asset.
The edition ladder, 1/4/5/10/20/40, is the set structure of Opepen, applied here to the psychology of the market itself.

Winning came with a choice. Physical, the default: the card hand-finished, graded, sealed, shipped. Or synthetic: the same 1/1 as a token on Ethereum, no physical ever made. Every winner had 2,048 minutes after the close to decide, then the choice locked. No swaps, no redemptions.

An accidental token launch tied to Visualize Value became the genesis for a nine-piece art project exploring the intersection of permissionless markets, digital art, and childhood entrepreneurship aesthetics.
Full Set

The work comprises 27 distinct pieces that function both as individual commentaries and as nodes in a larger visual system represented through a 3x9 grid.
Token #27 contains a consensus trigger: if it surpasses 159,300 editions in 24 hours (matching the total supply of the other 26 pieces combined), the entire collection permanently transforms to its network state. The threshold was successfully surpassed; the collection has been permanently transformed.
The project engages with Rodeo's distribution model — 24-hour open editions at $0.30 each. Initially separate artworks, the pieces were reimagined as interconnected nodes after discovering token image mutability, creating a meta-commentary on platform dynamics and collective value creation.
Editorial note: The claim that the threshold was crossed is artist testimony. A crossing transaction and before-and-after metadata are still needed for independent reconstruction.

1988 was distributed as a 3D model that could be projected into physical spaces via augmented reality.
A maximum supply of 554 pieces.
As a final nod to "The Physical Impossibility of Provenance" — 1988, minted on Ethereum Layer 2, is now redeemable for Hardware pieces on Ethereum Layer 1. For each new mint, the cost goes up by one. A maximum supply of 554 pieces. Just pay gas.
1988 takes this to its logical extreme by linking an artwork's "origin" to the year of my birth.
