Signature (2023) is a generative collection made with Red Bull Racing and Art on Internet. Its subject is the victory burnout: a driver’s celebratory marks after a precisely regulated race.
A controlled system leaves variable marks
In Matt Medved’s interview, Butcher explains that he sets the range of possible outcomes and lets randomness produce the individual composition. He also describes a viewing mode that displays rotation data and a measure of the marks. The image and its numerical description offer different ways to compare the outputs.
A 12 December post identifies the control explicitly: pressing N reveals the rotations and total circumference. The archived post preserves that implementation detail and its date.

The first token on view
The December interview records Signature #0 at Gateway Miami and its Christie’s auction. The publisher was also involved in the exhibition. The text is therefore labelled as a host-associated artist interview, not independent critical endorsement.
A viewer can compare how individual outputs differ within the same rules. The documented interaction is a way of inspecting the image, rather than a process for collectors to compose the whole collection.

The release-day explanation
On 22 November 2023, Butcher describes both collections together: the registered-trademark sign can stand for movement between points or the trace left by practicing a trade. The thread ties verification and exchange to the properties of the medium itself. This is his contemporary explanation, not a later claim of historical importance.
